I'd definitely say I'm someone with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome as related to my ADHD and quirks. Probably also, I like nightlife and karaoke, and then I also like to unwind after the gig-life-schedule from times when I hang around with bands and am up to music things.
If I'm left to my own times for things, my best hours of sleep are from 3 a.m. til noon or 3 to 11 a.m. depending on the day. And if the moon is full, I might stay up all night and sleep til the sun comes up.
I'm a light sleeper. I didn't know I was, but looking back, I think the highway noise from the big trucks going near my home as a kid was what kept me up all night. And other times I have tried sleeping in noisy places has been really more rough, even when I'm totally exhausted. -- So, I sleep in earplugs now.
I like a really dark space to sleep, but I can tolerate a red nightlight. Although no light at all is better.
Earplugs. They help.
I rarely drink, so that hasn't ever been an issue with going to sleep. Cannabis makes me more creative, so it might make me want to stay awake to do something I think is more fun than sleep, and it also makes it harder for me to have good dream recall so I'm not interested in it at the moment.
If I take something to sleep it really, really makes me groggy the next day. Even a benadryl won't be wore off by morning, and hydroxyzine was the other one, I think. I have never tried any of the other sleep medications since I don't really need them and don't like to wake up feeling groggy.
That full-moon energy really does keep me awake, and I feel it a lot more some cycles than others. Never sure if there's a hormone thing happening, but I know I love it and feel more awake during the full moon than the new moon. It would seem that moonlight is an element of its own and that having it shining does something more to me than just any assumptions around the tides or blood pressure or any other theories with moon stuff. I'm eternally curious about what makes me tick and tickled.
